Photos update in Android 5.0 Lollipop

With the launch of Lollipop, the Google+ Photos app will replace the Gallery app for the following Nexus devices: 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10.
Users do not need a Google+ account or sign-in into Google+ in order to use the Photos app.

Why the change? As you know, Google is continually improving the experience on Google+ Photos, and now for Nexus users, they’re consolidating photo viewing and managing to a single app for a better photos experience, plus some additional features, such as Auto Backup, if users choose to sign in to Google+.

Gallery app is available only for devices running Android 4.2 to 4.4. If your device is running Android 5.0 or higher, use the Photos app to manage your photos.

Where is my Gallery?

With the recent Lollipop launch on Android, Gallery is replaced by the Google+ Photos app as the way to view and manage your photos. You can find all of the photos from your device in the Google+ Photos app, and you can access the Google+ Photos app without signing in to Google+ or even having a Google account.

This transition does not affect your current photos in any way, and you can use the Google+ Photos app the same way you used Gallery (plus additional features, such as Auto Backup, if you choose to sign in to Google+).

Can I use the Google+ Photos app without using Google+? I don't want to use Google+!

You can use the Google+ Photos app to view and manage your photos without signing in to Google+ or even having a Google account.

Please note, your photos are private and will not be shared to Google+ or any social network unless you choose to share them.

I can't see my Picasa albums offline. What am I supposed to do?

You can view and manage your albums when logged in to the Google+ Photo app. We do not offer the ability to view albums offline at this time.
