Tools for Chrome and Google+

In the Chrome Web Store there are many helpful extensions or apps for making Google+ work better for you.

What are extensions?

Extensions are small software programs that can modify and enhance the functionality of the Chrome browser.

EDIT:  The Hover Zoom was found to contain malware, remove it!

Here are some of my favourites for Google+:

Circloscope Premium is the ultimate tool for circle management! I really recommend this versatile extension. There is a free version too but it won't get any updates.

+1 button for sharing to G+ from the web / saving stuff on my +1 tab (G+ profile) from web
- now one can also save Google+ posts with this external +1 button, they appear on the +1 tab

DoShare for scheduling posts on G+ and Pages, Chrome must be running: Good article with tips

Replies & More (Also sharing from G+) - Google has come up with their own Reply -button so this is a bit redundant unless you want to share G+ posts outside.

Translator for Google+ posts and comments

CircleCount: The official Chrome extension of CircleCount.com - showing information about Google+ Profiles and Pages directly on Google+
- Latest update: Option to reorder the communities on the overview page alphabetically!
- See from the hovercard who has circled you!

Other useful tools:

StayFocusd is a productivity extension for Google Chrome that helps you stay focused on work by restricting the amount of time you can spend on time-wasting websites. Once your allotted time has been used up, the sites you have blocked will be inaccessible for the rest of the day.

Bufferapp for sharing / scheduling stuff from Google+ and the web to LinkedIn, FB, Twitter and more

Bit.ly link shortener works well together with the BufferApp

Awesome screenshot, you can add text, boxes or arrows and edit your screenshot. Works well together with Diigo

AdBlock for blocking ads

Google Search by Image lets you initiate a Google search using any image on the web

TinEye reverse image search  Find out where an image came from, how it's used, or find higher resolution versions

ShotPin for Pinterest users: Lets you pin anything with a screenshot

Speak it!   Tired of reading? Select text you want to read and listen to it. SpeakIt converts text into speech so you no longer need to read

Wisestamp  Empower GMail, Google Mail, Outlook.com, AOL & Yahoo Mail with dynamic email signatures. Add Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest and more.

Google Translate   This extension translates entire webpages into a language of your choice with one click.

Gif Stopper:  Some people don't want to watch the animated Gifs. Stop animated gif images with the escape key. Works with Google+

Paused! Another GIF stopper: • The animation is stopped only after the page is completely loaded.

More apps for Google+ and productivity

Luc Suy published his own list with even more extensions

And to cap this all off, a nice article about optimizing your Chrome use!

What are your fave extensions, is something missing from the list here? Leave a comment.

  1. Great post, Jaana! I just wanted to mention two more extensions of mine that I made specifically to enhance the Google+ experience:

    - Favorite Posts (http://goo.gl/eBNIW) - Star posts and/or share them to your Instapaper account (and very soon to Pocket (ReadItLater) as well!)
    - Dynamic Maps (http://goo.gl/ETRHM) - Replaces the static map images on Checkins with actual maps that you can drag around.

    1. Excellent, thank you so much for sharing those with us! :-)
